Utah Mammoth -1.5 vs Chicago on Oct 2
Laying -1.5 on a 92-point team against a 72-point one feels like free money, but I got burned last season doing exactly this in October. Teams shake off rust and those openers land 4-3 more often than anyone admits. Chicago getting outscored 275-213 is ugly, and with Winnipeg, Pittsburgh and Carolina stacked right after, they might mail this one in. Small play for me, maybe half a unit on Utah -1.5, nothing crazy 💸
Value over a big price 💸
FrontRowLoyal nailed the October rust thing, and the numbers back him up - a 62-point gap looks juicy until you remember Utah's goal differential was only +28 across a full 82-game sample, which rarely covers -1.5 with any regularity. My table says lay it only if you trust the closing lineup, and honestly with Chicago hosting Winnipeg, Pittsburgh and Carolina right after, I'd rather sit this one out and save the C$ for a spot where the sample actually favours you. 📊
I keep my own tables 📊
+28 differential over 82 games covering -1.5 regularly? 😏 Jack speaks truth and the fanboys will still pile in. I'm fading that puck line, my C$ stays in my pocket.
Season openers are coin flips, and 268 goals for doesn't scream blowout machine. Show me the numbers on first-game favourites covering -1.5 and I'll listen. Until then, fade.
Bankroll is everything, so I only ever ask one thing: would this have landed enough times to pay my gas bill? 🍺 A +28 goal diff over 82 games is maybe a quarter-goal per night. That team wins by one far more than by two, and season openers go to OT in shootouts constantly, where the puck line is dead on arrival. If Utah really wants my money, ML at a short price does the same job with half the heartburn; -1.5 against a Chicago side hosting Winnipeg, Pittsburgh and Carolina right after (they'll show up) is a pass for me. 💸
Up one week, down the next. Classic.
Funny how everyone's suddenly a coin-flip philosopher when there's actual money to risk 😏 62-point gap and a rebuild Chicago squad missing the playoffs again, if this lands 4-3, Utah beat them anyway, eh? I'll take a slice at the book, fading the fade crowd. Lottery, not sport, some of you say, that's what losers call it 🤡💸
Checking goalies before I touch anything there. If Chicago's starter is a career backup, -1.5 lands; a hot vet steals a 3-2 and my C$ burns. Wait for those names. 🔥

Coin flips, eh? A 62-point gap and you lot are talking like Chicago's the '75 Canadiens 😂 I've had worse lays at the book for double the juice. ChrisDiehard's goalie wait is the only sensible post here. Remind me of your ROI on fading openers, Fanatic_Life? 🤡

Chicago's schedule after this one is brutal - Winnipeg, Pittsburgh, Carolina, so if they're going to check out early in the season, it's game one. Small C$ on the -1.5 for me, goalie names first though 🔥
The line moves — catch it.
Beth laying it while "waiting for goalie names" 😂 that's just betting with extra steps. Nothing wrong with it, since I dropped a C$ slice at bookmaker yesterday and now I'm stuck watching lineups like everyone else 💸
Chris has it right, goalie names are everything here, but I'll add this: I once loaded up on an opener puck line and the dog pulled their backup mid-morning — didn't land, C$ gone. That 213-275 goal diff scares me less than Chicago's own stretch after: Winnipeg, Pittsburgh, Carolina back to back, so if they mail game one in, -1.5 hits. Small stake at bookmaker, wait for starters, that's my whole plan 💸
Value over a big price 💸
Laying -1.5 on a team that got outscored by Chicago over 82 games... wait, they didn't, but 92 points vs 72 in October? Sure thing, mate 🤡 Beth, goalie names or it's just vibes and C$ gone.
Show me your ROI first 😏
Goal diff says 268-240 vs 213-275, that's a two-goal gap per night. I'll take the puck line at value over a big moneyline price, but only after goalies drop 😭💸
Value over a big price 💸
StandsGuy calling it vibes stung a bit because that was literally me two Tuesdays ago - slammed a puck line before morning skate, starter got scratched, C$ torched before lunch. Lesson logged. So yes, I'm with Harry: goalies drop first, then I touch anything.
My read on the 15th vs 31st matchup: the moneyline will be too rich to be worth it, so if I'm in, it's Utah -1.5 or nothing. But October openers have burned me enough times that I'm thinking half unit, maybe quarter, and keeping the rest for the stretch after, Chicago hosting Winnipeg, Pittsburgh and Carolina looks like a feeding trough for the books, whereas Utah getting Buffalo and Edmonton away could tell us if last season's 92 points were real. Small play, land it and move on 🔸💸
