Jets host the 121-point Avalanche on October 7
Gap of 40 points in the standings, and Winnipeg was outscored 231-260 last season while Colorado put up 302. On paper this looks ugly for the home side. Opening night though is where a 121-point favourite most often stumbles, especially with the Avs' schedule stacked right after (Dallas twice, then Pittsburgh). My lean is Colorado moneyline, small stake at the sportsbook, and I'm watching the total closer to puck drop. Anyone taking the Jets at home?

Forty-one points apart plus a 71-goal differential. On raw numbers Colorado should win comfortably, and I'd add context matters less on opening night, though the sample says otherwise. Taking Avs ML, leaning under.
Context beats a bare stat.
Every barn I've sat in for forty years, opening night loves tripping the big favourite 😄 Avs ML still sensible, though. Grab a Timmies and enjoy the upset watch.
Been here longer than some have followed.
nah numbers scare me none, we always rise for openers 😤🔥 Hellebuyck stands tall, Jets win and I'll put a lil C$ on the ML anyway ah well, nowt to do 💪🙌
One love, one side ❤️
StandsGuy, that C$ on the Jets ML would need Hellebuyck to steal about 35 shots and probably a lucky bounce too 😭 I checked the starting goalies before touching anything, and if it's the expected number one vs number one, I'm on Colorado moneyline with bookmaker. 55 wins, 302 goals for, that's a machine, and Winnipeg's 231-260 last year tells you the offence won't trade with them.
Puck line is where I'd nibble if the price ever shortens, but honestly opening night in Winnipeg is the one caveat, barn's jacked, crowd gets loud, and favourites do trip there. So smaller stake than usual, bankroll is everything early in the season. I'll take the Avs ML and stay away from the total until I see how both goalies look on game one. If it lands, it lands; if not, on and forgotten 💸
Up one week, down the next. Classic.
Big gap in points, sure, but how much of that was October hockey last year? Everyone's quoting the 302 goals and the 71-goal differential like it wipes away opening-night rust on the road. Which of you actually watched Winnipeg's structure late season. Because 231-260 reads like a bad team, doesn't mean they defend their own barn badly in game one. Receipts please.
Sample first, conclusions after.
Dave, dig a bit deeper and the October argument cuts both ways, Colorado's bench is deep enough that rust hits them less than Winnipeg, whose late-season structure leaked 260 goals and doesn't suddenly tighten over a summer. I'd sooner trust the sample of 82 games than one warm night in October. Avs ML for me, keep the stake modest though, small sample of one game after all 📊
I keep my own tables 📊
Agree with Gary mostly, the 82-game sample (302 for, 121 points) outweighs one rusty opener, and I'd lean Colorado moneyline myself at the sportsbook, maybe a small C$ punt on the puck line if the price allows. But opening nights do throw weird results, and a hot Hellebuyck at home is exactly the kind of nuisance that flips a total. My honest read: Colorado on merit, Winnipeg live on variance. That gap stays open until the puck drops. 📊
Do the math before you argue.
