National weekday games generally land on Sportsnet (or Sportsnet+ streaming), with TSN picking up regional sens coverage now and then — check the TV listings closer to the day, they shuffle these around. The young lot never had to pore over the TV guide like we did back in the day, so you're already ahead of the curve 😉

basically, some clubs sell their regular-season tv rights for part of the schedule to a regional broadcaster, so those games go out on tsn ottawa or similar and folks outside that region can't see em, unless nhl licks the game or it gets picked up nationally. think back to the old days when half the leafs games just vanished past london ontario. joy 😄
whereas national games. Sportsnet usually handles those weekdays - everyone coast to coast sees. for october 6, detroit hosting ottawa, keep an eye on whether it lands on the national slate. a senators-tsn window will probably show it fine down east and maybe trickle west depending on the other games that night. easiest fix, honestly: opens the sportsnet app a couple nights early and the listing tells you exactly where it's playing in your market. saves the guessing-and-grousing routine i've perfected over decades lol
Honestly half the fun is the blackout roulette, you just never know til puck drop 😅 Sens on TSN5, Wings game might be SN+. Check the guide night before, saves the headache 🙌
Been through a few blackout scrambles myself, back in my day you just hoped the satellite fed came through 😉 short version: 7-ish eastern, sportsnet or sn+ most likely, tsn5 if ottawa's regional feed grabs it.
