Jets host Colorado on October 7 at Canada Life Centre — who takes it?
Fade for me. 26th in the league, minus-29 goal differential, and Colorado coming into Canada Life Centre on Oct 7, the bookie will price the Avs as heavy favourites and rightly so. I'd rather pay the juice on the moneyline than chase theJets puck line at home; loaded up small on Colorado straight, kept the stake modest since opening nights are mush. Does feel a bit like a trap with Anaheim lurking Oct 10, but class gap says Avs. 💸
Up one week, down the next. Classic.
Beth's got the read I'd back here, 82 points and a 231-260 differential over 82 games is a team that finished 26th for a reason, and Colorado at Canada Life Centre on Oct 7 is the toughest date in that opening stretch. I'd treat the Winnipeg side of the puck line as a fade unless the price gets silly. Context matters though: if the sportsbook hangs anything close to plus money on the Jets at home, that's where a small flyer stops being crazy.
Do the math before you argue.
Both of you are pricing Winnipeg like it's mid-season form, it's opening night Oct 7, everyone's fresh, and home ice at Canada Life Centre against a marquee opponent is exactly where the Jets get up for it. I'd take the puck line with the hosts before touching the moneyline, then look at Anaheim on Oct 10 as the cleaner fade. Small stake, 0.5 units for me. 💸
Up one week, down the next. Classic.
Jack, you were singing the same "opening night magic" tune last season and we all remember how your parlay died 😂 Beth and the analyst are right - 26th place with a minus-29 diff is a fade, plain and simple. I'll take Colorado at the sportsbook before the fanboys pile in 🤡💸
Jack's got his opening night rose-coloured glasses on again and GloryDays already torched him for it 😂 Look at that schedule though, Oct 5 in Pittsburgh, then the Avs two days later, then Anaheim on the 10th. Back-to-back road-to-home turnaround against Colorado is where I'd expect the books to smell blood, and honestly the trap angle only works if Winnipeg's priced shorter than 26th place deserves. I'm with the fade side on the puck line 😏
Everyone's fading Winnipeg but nobody's mentioned Colorado played Oct 5 too, wait, that's Winnipeg in Pittsburgh. Back-to-back-ish stretch against the Avs on two days rest? Sure thing, mate, load up the parlay 😏

KevReds has it about right, I'd say. I've held season seats through a few of these rebuilds and opening night at Canada Life Centre has burned me more times than I care to count, the building's loud, the boys skate like it's June for twenty minutes, then Colorado wakes up and it's over by the second. Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.
So I'd lean with the fade on the Avs outright, but a little dart on Winnipeg on the puck line wouldn't be the worst C$ I've ever spent, just for the crowd energy that night. The bigger worry for me is the schedule everyone's pointing at, Pittsburgh on the 5th, then the Avs, then Anaheim on the 10th. That Anaheim game right after might be the trap, not the opener. The young lot never saw a tired team sleepwalk through a "should-win" against the Ducks, but I sure have 😄
Uncle_Faithful casually flipping the whole thread halfway through a joke is the funniest thing I've read all week 😂 And he's got a point buried in there. Winnipeg playing Pittsburgh on the 5th then hosting Colorado two nights later is exactly the kind of stretch where the building energy papers over a minus-29 goal differential for one period.
Here's my wrinkle though: a 231-260 team that finished 26th doesn't fade cleanly on opening night. The books know everyone's shadow-fading the Jets, so the price on Colorado won't be anywhere near the gift people are imagining. I've been burned before paying premium to fade the obvious side. That's a lottery ticket dressed up as a lock, laughable really. If the puck line on the Avs is short, maybe. If it's juicy, the "smart fade" crowd becomes the trap themselves. I'd sooner watch the first twenty minutes live and take what the bookmaker gives you in-game when the roar dies down 😏
It's a lottery, not sport.
The home opener that scares me was back around the Atlanta move era, friend of mine put fifty bucks on Winnipeg purely because the arena would be hopping, and we spent intermission laughing and third period crying 😄 So yeah, Veteran_SinceDayOne knows what he's talking about.
I lean Beth23's way overall, the 231-260 goal diff tells you plenty about where this club sits. But Emma's right that Uncle_Faithful stumbled onto something worth checking: schedule edges matter early in a season. My rule after thirty years of season seats: small stake on the puck line if Winnipeg gets some favourable setup, big stake only on Colorado. Trap games exist mostly for guys chasing an angle.
Seen it all, lads.
Whole schedule screams trap honestly, Pittsburgh Oct 5, Avs Oct 7, then Anaheim waiting. Watch the fanboys hammer the Avs puck line like it's free money 🤡💸
MillieBlues nailed it with the schedule point. Back in the day I sat through enough of those stretchy October slates to know the middle game is where your money goes to die, everyone's eyes on Anaheim on the 10th, and nobody remembers the Avs can name their score in this building if the Jets' third pairing gets caught out. I'd take Winnipeg moneyline only if the price got silly fat, otherwise leave the Oct 7 game alone. That minus-29 goal differential didn't come from bad luck, I've seen it all before. First twenty minutes the barn will be rocking like it's the playoffs, then a couple of Colorado goals and you're watching the crowd file out quiet. My old man used to say bet the team, not the atmosphere — still the best advice I ever got 😄
231 scored against 260 allowed on home ice 💸 anyone dropping good coin on the Jets puck line out of loyalty deserves the教学 letdown, Beth called it ages ago, easy slip material. 😏

Rob's right about that middle game being the graveyard, seen enough Octobers in the old barns to know the crowd's already thinking about the next one. I'd only add that Colorado on home ice is one of the few spots where the "trap" argument flips, the Jets being that flat at both ends of the ice means a tame Avs night still covers. I'll keep my C$ small and wait for the line rather than hammer anything early 😄
Been here longer than some have followed.
Straight Avs moneyline for me, small stake, puck line too juicy to touch with that schedule. I'd check the starting goalies before anything anyway. See you after the 7th 💸
The line moves — catch it.
