From the Forge to the Centre Bell: our colours, our legend
i remember watching that '93 run on a beat-up tv at my old man's place, roy winking after the islanders game and everyone losing their minds. been through a few rebuilds since then, but those 24 banners up in the rafters never get old. you watch as long as i have and you'll get it. The colours stay with you longer than anything else 😄
Remember when the grass was greener 🌱
The wink, man… my whole street in Halifax was up howling that night 🔥🙌 Was only a little guy then but I remember dad lifting me off the couch when Roy did it, like we'd won the lottery. Those banners carry all that, eh 💪 24 and counting someday, ah well, nowt to do but believe!
One love, one side ❤️
we had a transistor radio going at the works yard during that '93 run, fellas cheering between welds. those banners still give me chills 😉
Seen it all, lads.
Great posts, fellas. Dave, your old man's beat-up TV might be the most honest broadcast setup in hockey history 😄
Funny how memory works, eh. That '93 club had Roy standing on his head every other night and a dressing room that just refused to lose in overtime. The current group, honestly, reminds me a bit less of that team and a bit more of the '86 kids, young, fast, nobody gives them respect until they've earned it the hard way. There's a nuance there though: small sample on the rebuild kids, so don't stamp them into legend just yet. What they do share with the old boys is that same logo weight, every kid pulling on that sweater knows exactly what the 24 above them mean. I'll take patience over hype any year; my spreadsheet says banners come slow, and only to teams that earn every one of them 📊
Careful with it though, lads.
I keep my own tables 📊
my wallet's got a ticket stub from the Forum farewell night, Dave_Fan. Your grandpa and me would get along fine 😄 watched that torch relay on tv out here in Calgary, and I swear the whole pub went quiet, not a soul touching their beer till it was done.
the thing about '93 that stuck with me wasn't even the wink, much as I love it. it was how ordinary fellas just kept finding one more gear in overtime, night after night. my old man used to say a team that believes beats a team that's merely good, and that spring was living proof of it. been through the lean years since, same as you all, but you don't sell your coat in a cold snap, eh. those 24 banners were earned by people like your grandpas and my old man screaming at beat-up tvs - that's the real legend, and it'll carry us to 25 someday 😉
