Whisper from the room: Carolina may rest legs in Chicago before the
Heard something interesting from a guy I know with ties to the Carolina locker room 😏 word is Brind'Amour won't run his full A-game in Chicago on the 10th, they're talking a rotated set of D pairs and some fresh legs up front, saving the heavy pieces for Philly on the 11th and then Washington on the 13th. Makes sense when you look at the table, 113 points banked and Chicago sitting 31st with 72. Word going round is they'll still dress a competitive XII, you know the rest 🤫 screenshot this if it plays out.
Solid source, details in the DMs.
Funny thing about rotation panic. I keep my own table round by round, and the Canes' depth chart is exactly the kind that makes a rest game low-risk. Steve's whisper actually lines up with the schedule math: three games in four nights (Chicago on the 10th, Philly away on the 11th, then Washington on the 13th) against a 31st-place Chicago side sitting at 72 points. If Brind'Amour rotates D pairs and gives some forwards a lighter load there, the dropped points cost you almost nothing; the Philly and Washington games are where the seeding lives. There's a nuance here, though, matchup still matters at the margins, because a flat rotated lineup in Chicago is how you hand a bad team a feel-good win and hand a puck line bettor a bad night. My expectation: the heavy pieces play, just with trimmed minutes, and the fourth line gets real ice time. Caveat on sample size - one leaked whisper and a schedule aren't a confirmed lineup card, so I'd hold off on anything more confident until warmups.

Rotated D pairs against a team that got outscored by 62 goals? Steve's "guy with ties", does he actually name anyone sitting, or is this vibes dressed up as intel?
Jack, depth chart helps, sure, but you're assuming everyone's healthy. Nobody in this thread has said who's dinged up or who sits in net. If Kochetkov gets the nod and two regulars are resting on the 10th, fine, that's a different bet than a full lineup. Show me the names before we call it low-risk. Not convinced until then.
Good question, Josh, nothing to be embarrassed about. Rotated D pairs means the defencemen still all dress, but the usual pairings get reshuffled, think Slavin skating with a third-pairing guy instead of his normal partner, so nobody's workload gets too heavy. Scratching a top defenceman is the stronger version, when he sits in the press box entirely. In Carolina's case on the 10th against Chicago, I'd expect the first kind: fresh legs up front, mixed pairs on the blue line, and the full unit saved for Philly the next night. 📊

Needling Gary's explanation a bit, if Slavin's out there logging heavy minutes with a third-pairing guy, that's not really rest, is it? 😅 We'll see on the 10th I guess, ah well, nowt to do
One love, one side ❤️
Worked plenty of nights at the arena when a visiting side parked its stars on the road trip's first stop, and you can smell it in warmups, half the guys are just going through the motions 😏 Carolina's got three games in four days, Philly then Washington right after Chicago, and a 62-goal differential works both ways: the Canes should beat that Blackhawks roster even with a B lineup. Fanatic's right that it's vibes until a name leaks, but those who know, know. Smart teams rest legs against 31st before a back-to-back, that's just how you manage 113 points worth of season 🤫 You'll all find out soon enough on the 10th.

Back in my day coaches hid this stuff worse and we still figured it out by warmups 😄. StandsGuy has a point though - resting legs means shorter shifts and sheltered minutes, so expect Slavin's ice time cut in half more than a full scratch. Given the Canes sit 2nd with 113 points and Chicago's last with 72, Brind'Amour can afford a soft night on the 10th before Philly and Washington. Where he'll surprise us? Nobody knows till the puck drops, that's half the fun.
