Thirty years later and I still get chills watching the '05 run tape
My old man took me to games at the Gardens, then the Coliseum, and by 2006 I'd been bleeding orange longer than most of you have been alive. That Game 6, I watched from my brother-in-law's place in Calgary, one Oil fan in a room of Flames fans, and by the third period even they were just shaking their heads at Roli. Man was a wall with a catching glove 😄
Funny thing is, we lost that Cup and I still get chills thinking about the run. There's an old saying: it's better to have fought and fallen short than never fought at all. Half of Alberta called in sick the next morning and not one boss dared say a word. You watch as long as I have and you'll get it - seasons like that come along maybe twice in a lifetime.

KevReds, that calgary story is gold 😄 i was in a pub down here in london with maybe three oil fans total, and when roli stacked that pad in game 6 the whole room just went quiet except us - small victory but it felt like the cup right there. funny thing is, a '05 run tape and a '06 tape get mixed up in my head sometimes, all one big heartbreak-to-glory blur. watch as long as i have and you'll get it, those nights are why we keep coming back 😉

Funny how everyone remembers Roli's saves but nobody mentions we actually lost Game 7 that year - that '06 group got further on pure will than any team since, and I'd take half their heart over this current roster's skill. Different eras, sure, but that team felt like it was dragging the whole country with them. Still bugs me the drought goes back to '93.

My old answering machine from that spring still has the playoff greeting my wife recorded, that's how deep it runs 😄 Jack's got a point about game 7 stinging, but back in the day you learned that heart is what gets you to the door, sometimes the door just doesn't open. Roli carried us like a moving van up a hill, and I'd call in sick for one more ride like that tomorrow.
