A rest job is when a team scratches a healthy vet purely to manage the schedule - think Buffalo holding a guy out of the Wild game October 6 because Florida's coming October 12 and then Montréal and Toronto on the road. The body of work matters more than one game, small sample though a single lineup may be, so coaches play the long game and bettors get burned guessing.

back when I was following the old regime, we'd find out scratches at warmups and that was that. with 109 banked and Florida, Montréal, Toronto stacked right after the Wild on the 6th, I'd take any "full lineup" leak with a truckload of salt. my bet? mostly the regulars skate, but one vet quietly gets a maintenance night and nobody says a word till an hour before. we'll see 😄
