Remembering when Rogers Place shook louder than the old Northlands
i remember being up in northlands in the 90s, cold toilets and a great barn though it was. but that june night a few years back, standing on 104th at midnight surrounded by strangers in orange hugging like we'd known each other all our lives - my old man would've said a barn's only as good as what fills it 😄 and rogers has earned its keep twice over.

ha, the cold toilets comment got me, dave 😄 i spent half my paycheque on playoff merch that june and didn't regret a cent, my daughter and i stood on 104th past midnight, some fella in flames gear walking by and even he tipped his hat. funny thing is the old barn never had air conditioning worth a damn, but it had the same roar in it. Rogers just gave it better lungs, the heart was always ours.

Funny thing is I came to that June night with zero expectations, and that's exactly why it hit so hard. The crowd on 104th wasn't celebrating a finished job, we were celebrating the feeling again, and honestly, that squad earned every decibel with how hard they checked and how they never seemed out of a game.
Comparing to the current group, I'd say this: the old bunch felt like a street fight in a barn, this one feels like a storm you watch roll in, and both are fun in their own way. Caveat from the guy who usually keeps spreadsheets, it's early, small sample, let's see them in late spring before crowning anyone. But if they give us another midnight on 104th, I'll happily blow another chunk of my paycheque on merch, no regrets this time either 📊

Funniest part is my visa statement from that June still says "OILERS MERCH" six times in a row 🤣 my cat had an orange jersey, no regrets 🍿
