Quick question from a still-learning-this guy 😅 is the Pens-Stars opener on October 10 actually on Sportsnet here in Canada, or do I need ESPN+ for it? And what time does it start in Saskatchewan time? Don't want to miss it, thanks in advance 🙏

Saskatchewan time, eh. That's just Central without the daylight nonsense, so count on a 7 pm Eastern puck drop being 5 pm your clock, same as it ever was 😄
For the broadcast itself: Sportsnet usually has first crack at the Saturday-ish national windows, and an opener like this one (Dallas rolling in with 112 points from last year, no less) is the kind of game they tend to pick up. Check the Sportsnet schedule closer to the date - if it's not listed there, the league's own streaming app is the legal route up here, that's what I fall back on when the truck's parked in a motel somewhere. Back in the day we were lucky to get ONE game a week on Hockey Night, now folks complain about choice. Seen worse problems, believe me 😉
Rob's answer got me wondering about something, sorry if it's a daft question 😅 when folks say Sportsnet has "first crack" at the national windows, does that mean TSN can't even bid on a game like this, or do they split the season somehow? Still learning how the Canadian rights work.

no daft question at all, mate. back in my day it was basically hockey night in canada on one channel and that was that - nowadays rogers holds the national rights, so sportsnet gets the bulk of the windows and tsn mostly does regional and its own selected national nights. for a game like this opener i'd just check the schedule the week of; worst case you're streaming it on sportsnet+ rather than needing espn+ at all 😉

funny how it's the newbie asking the sharpest question in the thread 😄 DaveFaithful summed it up fine. Rogers holds the national deal, so sportsnet gets most saturday-ish windows, tsn does its own nights. so for october 10 my advice is simple: check your tv guide closer to the day, and if sportsnet isn't carrying it, espn+ (via the sportsnet connection these days) is your fallback. don't pre-buy anything just yet, patience has saved me plenty over the years.
for the record i'll be watching on a 7 pm eastern drop, which is 6 here in london. Dave, that's 5 on your saskatchewan clock, rob already did the math for you. and honestly, dallas coming in third overall with 112 points into our barn makes this worth setting an alarm for. watch as long as i have and you'll learn the rights shuffle is the easy part; the hard part is finding out whether our boys can hang with a team like that. i'll report back from the couch 😄
