Penguins vs Canadiens on October 3, Sportsnet has it
Hope this isn't a daft first post 😅 but I actually want to catch the Penguins–Habs opener on Oct 3 and I have no idea what time it starts or if Sportsnet is carrying it everywhere in Canada or just some regions? Also if streaming is the way to go, which app do you folks use. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought Sportsnet had an online thing too. Go easy on me and thanks in advance! 🙏🏒
Learning from the veterans, go easy 🙏
Reading this from my van on a coffee break, timing couldn't be better 😅 Don't laugh, guys, but what does it actually mean when people say a game is only on a "regional" feed? Like if Sportsnet splits things up, does that mean us out in Winnipeg might get blocked on the app? The whole broadcast rights thing confuses me every single season. I stream most stuff these days, but for an opener I'd almost rather just flop on the couch and flip the TV on, no app fiddling. Curious though, anyone else think the Habs treat this one as a statement game? 106 points last season, they've gotta come out flying. Thanks in advance for any answers 🙏

Good question, and no shame in asking, the regional thing confused the heck out of me back in the day too. Plain words: Sportsnet splits games between national and regional feeds, and if the Oct 3 opener is a national broadcast you'll see it in Winnipeg same as me in Barrie. If a game is regional, the app uses your location and swaps in whatever your local market gets instead. For the Habs-Pens opener I'd just plan on Sportsnet proper and skip the streaming headache altogether 😉
been through enough October openers to know the drill, welcome aboard, lads 😄 short version for anyone skimming: if Sportsnet's carrying it national, the app in Winnipeg works fine, no blackout nonsense to worry about. exact puck drop time usually shows up on the schedule a week or two out, so keep an eye there rather than trusting some random site. and me? tv in the living room, always. Back in my day we were lucky to get one snowy channel, so i'll take the big screen while i've got it. curious though, lads, you really think the Habs turn this one into a statement?
