Word is Dorion's been sniffing around a left-shot top-pair guy out west, nothing confirmed so don't quote me on it 🤡 But man if we land one, Chabot finally gets a real partner and Sandén can go back to eating 14 minutes instead of dying out there every night. Wait for the fanboys to pile in with their fantasy trades, but I'll believe it when I see it 😏

Sophie's got a point about the hole, but temper the dream a little: true top-pair left-shot D-men rarely move in-season, and when they do the price is a first plus a roster piece, which gets tricky with our window. Age matters too. Anyone worth pairing with Chabot long-term is either 24-28 and expensive, or over 30 and trending down. Small sample caveat on my part since we don't even know which names are actually in play, but I'd pencil in a solid second-pair upgrade before I pencil in a saviour. 📊

Jack, I hear you, but I've watched this league long enough to know "rarely" don't mean never. Back in my day everybody said the same thing about number-one D-men staying put, and then a GM with itchy palms would get nervous at the deadline and suddenly you'd see a legit top-pair lefty changing addresses for less than people swore he'd cost. Half the big moves in league history happened exactly when everyone said they couldn't.
And the age worry cuts both ways. We're not asking for a 25-year-old franchise piece to fall in our lap - we need somebody good enough to chew tough minutes beside Chabot so Sandén quits dying out there every shift. Even a solid veteran on the wrong side of 30 fixes that if the price is sane. If Dorion has to pay a first plus a roster guy, so be it, sitting here being patient while the penalty kill gives us all heartburn ain't patience, it's just slow torture 😉
Kev, you're singing my tune here 😄 I've got scars from exactly this kind of talk though. Remember the years we all convinced ourselves a legit number-one lefty was coming, big rumour, local radio buzzing, and then deadline day came and went with nothing but a depth guy and a pat on the head. Watch as long as I have and you'll get it: these whispers are cheap, defencemen are dear, and some GM somewhere getting nervous at the deadline is a coin flip at best.
So do I want it? Sure, Chabot with a real partner would fix half the nights where my heartburn comes from the hockey and not the chili. But I've learned to hold these ones loosely. Time will tell, fellas. And if Dorion actually pulls it off, I'll be the first to buy the beers at the rink 😉
