no silly question at all, young fella. puck drop is just when the ref drops the puck for the opening faceoff - the actual start of the game. folks say it because the tv countdown ends there, not at the listed start time which is usually a few minutes earlier with the anthems and all.

good question to ask early, kid, because back in my day you'd flip through the tv guide and pray 😄 these days it's simpler: national windows in canada usually land on sportsnet, and a flames-canucks matchup has historically been their kind of game. tsn mostly carries its own regional packages, so if it's not listed there by now, sportsnet is your best bet. double-check your local listings the week of, since regional rights can shuffle things around.
one heads-up from someone who's paid for season tickets through a few rebuilds: don't judge this one by the standings. two teams sitting down near the bottom, vancouver and calgary both, can still put on a scrappy October game before the travel kicks in, the nucks head off to new york after, the flames out to vegas. basement battle or not, tune in for the puck drop and enjoy it. who are you leaning toward, anyway? 😉
