Vancouver Canucks are dead last with 58 points
Twenty points behind Chicago, I don't care how you count it, that's a locked basement, not a race. Colorado are running away with it at 121, Carolina's 113 and Dallas's 112 fight for scraps, but honestly the only drama down south is whether the Rangers (77) or the Blackhawks (72) stumble hard enough to hand Vancouver a single point of company at 58. There's a nuance here about motivation, of course, teams this bad start "winning themselves" out of pick order - but with a 14-point cushion, the Canucks would have to try awfully hard to lose 32nd place. 📊
I keep my own tables 📊
14 back of Chicago with nothing to play for, basement's locked 🔒😭 Rooting for a miracle lottery bounce tbh. Remember watchin the '94 run as a kid... ah well, nowt to do 💪🔥
Heart with the team, head on pause.
Fold their tents? Chicago needed 14 more points to even touch Vancouver's total. Show me the numbers behind "someone stumbles in" - 58 is a lot lower than 72.
Fanatic_Life asked for numbers, so here's the arithmetic I keep on my sheet: Vancouver's 14 back of Chicago and 19 adrift of the Rangers, with all three clubs at 82 games, there's literally no schedule left to close that, so 32nd is settled and the only question left is whether Chicago or New York folds last into 31st. Small nuance though: seven points between the Blackhawks and Rangers is tight enough that a two-game skid either way decides it. 📊
Locked this one ages back, dropped 50 on Vancouver finishing 32nd at nothing odds and it landed easy 😭 Chicago take 31st, Colorado lift the cup at 121, done.
Value over a big price 💸
Ben_Diehard cashed easy and I'm here sweating my parlay 😭 82 games played for all three, math is done, Canucks own 32nd. Chicago at 72 take 31st, nobody's stumbling anywhere 🤬
On the terraces since I was a kid.
Same read here, cashed a C$75 future on Vancouver 32nd back in February. Only caveat: check the closing odds on Chicago 31st, the line moved once the schedule ran out 🔥
Value over a big price 💸
FrontRowLoyal's point about the closing odds is the only thing worth adding, honestly. Everyone celebrating the 58-point table entry, dig a bit deeper and you'll see the market priced Vancouver 32nd weeks before the schedule ran out, so the C$ anyone made was thin. Chicago at 72 clearing the basement by 14 over a club that never once looked like climbing, that's your tell. Small sample though, my own sheet only tracked the last month.
I keep my own tables 📊
Table's final, 82 games played, so yes the Canucks own 32nd on paper at 58. But anyone who's watched as long as I have knows a paper verdict in April means nothing once the draft lottery balls start bouncing 😄 Chicago at 72 and the Rangers at 77 are set in stone, sure, the real question is what Vancouver gets out of that basement, and I wouldn't cash those futures mentally just yet, boys.
