Four-game road swing through Vegas, Colorado and Utah - who's in?
FINALLY the season's almost here 🙌 been counting down since the schedule dropped. October 9 in Vegas, then Colorado two nights later?? that opening road swing is gonna tell us everything tbh. i'm taking the week off work for it, no joke. booked a buddy's couch in Denver already 🔥
yeah i know the table was ugly last year, 28th and all that, but backing them all day regardless. thin blue line or not, we show up through thick and thin. Utah on the 14th then home for Buffalo - four games in basically a week, who's riding along the whole trip with me?? 💪 ah well, nowt to do but wait for puck drop
On the terraces since I was a kid.
Taking a whole week off work for THAT schedule 😂 brave man, hope you packed tissues. We were 28th last season for a reason, 299 goals against doesn't fix itself over the summer... but yeah I'll be glued to the screen Oct 9 regardless. Vegas then Colorado back to back, brutal opener, ah well, nowt to do but watch and suffer 🔥🤬
One love, one side ❤️
I'll bet the road underdog moneyline in Vegas opening night, books always shade those lines toward the home crowd. Colorado, I'm staying clear, value's on the puck line only if it drifts +1.5. 😭💸
Value over a big price 💸
😂 the mental image of this team rolling into Vegas with a 253-299 goal line is basically sending a rowboat into a hurricane. i'll be watching from my couch in desperate need of a snack break every time the defence touches the puck. anyone got tissues to spare for StandsGuy? 🍿
Hold my pint.
Rowboat into a hurricane, that's about right 😄 I'll watch every minute though — week off work sounds nice but this old bones system's got rewires booked.
Seen it all, lads.
Ben making it sound like the books shade Vegas lines out of patriotism 😂 the Shade's are gonna shade either way pal. I'll be at Scotiabank for Nashville on the 6th before mocking this road swing from my couch 💸
BadBeatPTSD, you and me both, brother, no road trip for me either, but I'll have the coffee on and the tv humming for all three out west. honestly Vegas on the 9th is the one I'd circle; altitudes like Denver in a barn at 10am body time used to wreck teams back in the day, and this group hasn't shown me it handles travel well. watch as long as I have and you'll get it, October road swings tell you more about a club than any training camp chatter 😉
Been here longer than some have followed.
Denver at 10am body time is exactly where I'm tossing a few C$ on the Leafs to get flattened, if I'm being honest 😂 Vegas on the 9th I might actually fade everyone's gut feeling - those openers are always weird. Anyone riding the whole swing with real money deserves whatever the puck line does to them 💸
Show me your ROI first 😏
Millie's got a point about openers being weird, I've watched enough of them over the years to know game one tells you nothing and everything at the same time 😄
I'll be honest though, I'm with the couch crowd on this one. Did my last proper road swing back in the 90s, Denver included, and my knees still file a complaint every time somebody mentions altitude. These days I'll take Hockey Night in Canada from my own living room, thank you kindly. The one caveat I'd add to fading Vegas: a team sitting 28th with that goal difference usually finds a way to surprise you in game one, then remembers who it is by Colorado. So maybe don't put real money on the flattening in Denver, Millie, old sayings exist for a reason, and "count your chickens" applies to doom just as much as hope 😉
Either way, coffee on, tv humming, October 9 circled. That's my whole trip.
Kev agreeing with me? someone screenshot that before the fanboys pile in 😏 honest detail for the road crowd though: back-to-back time zones Vegas then Denver at altitude, and this group finished 28th with a -46 goal diff for a reason. I'll take my C$ elsewhere, thanks 🤡
kev's right that openers tell you nothing and everything, but i'll add a caveat. After 82 games of a -46 goal diff last year, the "it's game one, anything can happen" comfort blanket is a bit thinner for us 😄 i remember driving up from a road trip back in the day with the radio on, listening to the leafs get bullied at altitude in denver, and my old man just laughed and said watch as long as I have and you'll get it. he wasn't wrong.
i'm couch crowd too, my knees gave up on road swings years ago, but i'll take the coffee-and-couch route through vegas, denver and utah anyway. young lot taking a week off work for it. Good on ya, that's the right way to do it 😉
Two days off between Vegas and Denver is the only thing keeping that swing from being a full circus 😂 anyone who flew into McCarran then Denver altitude with 25 hours of recovery knows how that legs feel by the second period. Laughable really that Leafs Nation thinks a -46 squad handles that, I'm keeping my C$ warm for Utah instead 💸
It's a lottery, not sport.
Emma's got it right about the altitude legs, that's the part everyone forgets. I did a similar double back in the day, vegas then up into the mountains, and by the second game my knees were filing complaints 😄 i'll watch from the couch too, but i'll be watching, 28th or not, october hockey's still october hockey. a soft bed in toronto beats a hard seat in denver at my age anyway 😉
Remember when the grass was greener 🌱
Riding the whole swing is one thing, getting puck line value on a team that finished 28th is another 🤡 Vegas then Colorado on October 9 and 10 back-to-back? That's where books print money off hopeful Leafs fans. I'll toss a fiver on Utah purely for a laugh, and Utah on the 14th is the only leg I'd actually touch 😏
haha, glorydays, the books been printing off leafs fans since before you could type 😄 back in my day we'd drive to the old gardens barns thinking this year was the year, and october told us sweet nothing. 28th or not, i'll be up watching vegas with a coffee and low hopes, funny how expectations always lie by game 40, eh?
Been here longer than some have followed.
