Flames open October with five straight, Avalanche first at the Dome
FINALLY 🙌 October 9, the Dome, the Avs in town - been counting down since the schedule dropped tbh 🔥
Last time I saw our lot open at home I nearly lost my voice by the second period, ah well, nowt to do, that's just what opening night does to you 😱 Even with the 29th-place finish hanging over everyone, first puck drop of the season hits different. Who's actually going?? Trying to sort tickets with the boys before they balloon past C$200 a seat 🤬 Vegas road trip after sounds tempting too but let's focus, first one at home, gotta be LOUD 💪
You don't abandon your own.
Bro my voice is STILL gone from the last home opener I went to 😂 screamed myself hoarse by the second intermission and would do it all again in a heartbeat 🗣️🔥
Oct 9 at the Dome vs the Avs?? You just KNOW that barn is gonna be shaking. Avs fans crawling out of the woodwork acting like they own the place, nah, not in our house lads 🚫🍺 Me and the boys already locked in seats, driving up from Victoria for it, no debate. VAN to YYC road trip, toque packed, ready to lose it when the lights drop 🏒😤
FLAMES IN THE STORM, COME ON!!! ⚡🔥
You don't abandon your own.
Fun opener for the bettors too - Avs in town, they'll likely be road favourites around -150ish, and honestly the Flames plus money at home in front of that crowd might be the value over a big price the other way. I'd rather take a small stab on the moneyline than chase the puck line against Colorado's top six. Put C$50 on it opening night, lose with the barn shaking anyway 🍻
Up one week, down the next. Classic.
My voice will be gone by the anthem and I'll blame the beer prices instead 🤣🤣 already telling the wife I've got a "work thing" Oct 9 😂
Hold my pint.
ha, refblind, telling the wife it's a work thing - I did that for twenty-odd years until she bought season tickets herself. now she out-cheers me and out-spends me at the concession stand. be careful what you wish for 😄
jack's got a point about the plus money at home, though i'd say most opening nights throw the form book out the window anyway. saw plenty of openers back in my day where the underdog came out flying just on adrenaline. i'll be in my usual seat on the 9th - been through enough rebuilds to know you show up regardless of where the team finished last spring. that's what a home opener is for. see you all there, bring a real voice, not a text message 😉
Avs road favourites against a club that finished 29th last season? Jack, take the plus money and thank me at the Saddledome 🤡😏
KevReds, that story about the wife out-cheering you made my morning 😄 I'll be at the opener too, and yeah Jack, the plus money's tempting. But watch as long as I have and you'll get it: opening night in this building has burned smarter men than us. Still going, voice and wallet be damned.
Been here longer than some have followed.
GloryDays taking the Avs side already, bold move for a bloke who fades every October favourite 😂 Truth be told the Dome opener vs Colorado's the only sure thing on that homestand - Anaheim twice after is where the "easy" games bite you. Put a toonie on the Flames puck line for opening night, worst case I get a story out of it 💸
Millie's got it right, the Anaheim games are the trap, not the Avs one 😄 I've sat through enough openers at the Dome to know the building lifts the fellas that night no matter what the table said last spring. Only caveat from me: my seat's been in the family since the 90s and I can tell you October optimism costs the same in beer money as November pessimism, so pace yourselves at the concession stand, Kev 😉
Seen it all, lads.
Trapped by Anaheim twice in three days after opening night? that's the stretch I'm putting coin on, Utah trip be damned 😏
Show me your ROI first 😏
BadBeatPTSD said it well, the building carries the boys on opener night, always has. Back in the day I missed a home opener because of a work thing and heard the roar from the parking lot, never forgave myself 😄 My only caveat: Anaheim twice in three days after an emotional Avs game is exactly where a tired legs loss hides, so I'm pacing my voice for all three.
Seen it all, lads.
Laughable how everyone's already crownin the Anaheim games the trap when the Avs opener is the one that'll bake everyone's brain 😂 Emotion of opening night, hungover crowd, and Colorado just chews teams like that. I'll be at the Dome on the 9th with a few quid... sorry, C$ down on the puck line, because you know half this thread fades the favourite and cashes my account for me 🤡
And Millie, wait for the fanboys to pile in when you go duck hunting twice in three days, those back-to-backs against a team with nothing to lose are where bets go to die. Ask my wallet how I know 😏
gotta side with enforcer here, that opener against the avs is the one that'll take years off ya 😄 watched as long as I have and you'll get it - the dome on opening night is worth the ticket price alone, emotion can paper over a lot of cracks for 60 minutes.
my caveat though: i renewed the season seats back when we were picking top five every spring, so believe me when i say don't judge this team by the first week. seattle first, then colorado, then anaheim twice in three days - that's a meaty october for a young lineup. if they come out of that stretch at .500 i'll call it a fine start and sleep easy. and whoever's putting coin on the anaheim games, mind the second one - tired legs, back to back-ish, that's where the puck line gets ugly. i'll be in my usual spot on the 9th, third beer in before the anthem like always 😉
Seen worse openers than this, trust me. Remember one October years back, whole building buzzing, and the boys laid an egg by the second. Hope I'm wrong this time 😄
