Five-game road swing kicks off in Carolina
FINALLY it's here 🔥 Canes on the 8th to kick this swing off and honestly?? nobody gives us a shot... 32nd, 58 points, whatever. We're backing them all day 💪 that night in Carolina is the one I'm circling, you just KNOW they shock someone this trip 🙌
Amy's got a point about the 316 against, but that's exactly where the value hides. Canes at home to a 32nd-place club? Books will price this like a blowout, maybe -250 or worse on the moneyline, and that's no ROI for anyone. I'm eyeing the Canucks +1.5 instead, even a 4-2 loss lands that and pays decent. Drove a fare down 17th Ave last night yapping about this exact trip with a guy, everyone Assumes the Canes roll.
My rule is simple: check the starting goalies before I touch anything, and if Vancouver's starter is legit that night, a small moneyline dart at +7 or 8 isn't crazy on a road swing opener where the favourite sometimes comes out flat. Dropped C$50 on underdog puck lines last October trip and went 3-2, paid for my beer money all month 🍺. Circle the 8th, wait for the lines, jump if the plus side drifts. Bankroll is everything, don't chase the shock, chase the price. 💸
Value over a big price 💸
I've got my alarm set for the 8th like it's a Timmies run at 6am 🤣 me, a Leafs guy, cheering for Vancouver to shock the Canes... my buddy's gonna put my picture on a missing persons poster. Two points on that trip and I'll personally start the parade in my living room, population one 😂🍿
Hold my pint.
worst team in the league has NOTHING to lose, that's exactly why the 8th scares Canes fans tbh 😱 every game is free hockey for us, no pressure, nobody expects a thing. you just know some nights the goalie stands on his head and steals two points out of nowhere
that said i'm with Amy on the parade, lol, 316 against don't just vanish in one summer 😬 my circle is the Rangers on the 11th tho, MSG, big stage, our guys always show up when there's lights on 🔥💪
Zero pressure is REAL, Kev, ask anyone who's ever played rec hockey against a team that's already cooked 😂 49 losses last year and nobody's making a documentary about us either way, so the boys can just go out and sling it in Carolina. You just know Demko steals one on this trip 🔥 +1 puck line all day, take my toonie and double it 🙌
Sorry if this is a daft question, but does "free hockey, no pressure" actually work when the Canes are just better? Like 216 goals vs 316 against over 82 games... 😅 maybe I'm wrong, but I'd circle the Islanders game on the 13th before Carolina, seems more winnable? Still learning this stuff so go easy on me 🙏
Learn something new every day.
Canes first game of the season for everyone, fresh legs, chaos energy 😤 Dave, better on paper means squat in October, circling the 8th myself 🏒
You don't abandon your own.
Chaos energy is fun til the Canes score four in the first 😅 but I'll be up watching the 8th anyway. If the boys steal one, does that mean we believe again? 🙈
Learning from the veterans, go easy 🙏
Ya'll forget I played against teams way outta my league growing up and we still stole games on pure chaos 😤 8th for me too, gim'r boys! 🔥
One love, one side ❤️
Back when I was holding seats through the late 90s mess, teams that looked dead on paper somehow walked into Carolina-type barns and stole the opener more than once. Nobody in the rink gave 'em a chance, and that was exactly the problem for the other guys - first game of the year, everyone's legs are fresh, systems are shaky, and a hungry club smelling blood can hang around longer than the favourite likes.
So to the young fellas asking whether believing is foolish: expecting nothing and getting something beats the reverse, I've watched long enough to know that much. The 8th in Carolina, sure, circle it. But don't sleep on New Jersey the night after, weird things happen on back-to-backs in October. If they steal one out east, check back here and tell me I was right 😄
